Womens tennis team remains undefeated

The St. Olaf women’s tennis team defeated Luther College 6-3 at the Owatonna Tennis Center on March 1. The win keeps alive the team’s undefeated 2014 campaign.

The Oles fell behind early, trailing 1-2 after the doubles rounds. The lone victory came from Lisa Hall ’16 and Maya MacGibbon ’16 at the top doubles spot, as they defeated their opponents 9-8 in a tight affair.

Despite being down early, the Oles rallied strongly to claim five of the six singles matches. Kristi Kroker ’15 fought back from 2-6, 3-4 to win at second singles in a 10-point tiebreaker. Lizzie Carlson ’14 also found herself down a set but rebounded by cruising through the second set 6-1 and closing the match out 10-6 in the tiebreaker. Other singles victors for the Oles were Hall, MacGibbon and Erin Hynes ’15 at first, third and fifth singles respectively.

St. Olaf will hope to keep their unbeaten season alive on March 7 when they compete against University of St. Thomas at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
