A&Eats: snacking on a whole new level at Costco

Who loves nothing more than snacks? As college students, we truly cannot live without them especially since some us are committed STEM majors somehow surviving while taking three labs. Snacks are the essence of our survival. Without them the majority of us couldn’t even make it on the Dean’s List. However the real problem lies in the choice we have of snacks considering there are millions of them out there. We must take into account the location of where to get our snacks, the price, the quality, the savoriness, and even the sweetness. That is why I will be reviewing my top three snacks from the greatest retailer on Earth: Costco Wholesale. While Costco does require a membership to enter, I’m sure that a kind soul on St. Olaf Extra will be glad to take you.

Before I get started with my review, I want to recognize that there are many amazing snacks in this marvelous store but as a professional snacker myself, I can guarantee that these three are the ones you need to try. While many reviews choose to start with their top choice, I’d rather save the best for last. To begin, we have the Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites. Priced at $12.49, you will be getting your snacking’s worth with this three pound tub filled with delicious, savory bites. Crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside, this snack is perfect for a quick pick-me up in the mornings, afternoons, evenings, and late night study sessions. Want to get fancy? Melt a few squares of your favorite chocolate in a microwave and dip your peanut butter pretzel bites right in for a sweet and salty treat.

In second place, we have the Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Heavenly Hunks. I ranked this snack as second on my list because if you’re like me and have a severe dairy intolerance, then you can understand the frustration with finding a dairy-free snack that actually tastes good. Not only are these Heavenly Hunks vegan, they’re also gluten-free and nut-free. Perfect as an on-the-go or late night snack, these Heavenly Hunks of chocolatey softness are sure to lift you up to a sweetened paradise. When I’m feeling extra and want to reward myself for making it up the three flights of stairs to my room, I mix one large scoop of dairy-free ice cream in a bowl and cut up two Heavenly Hunks along with some microwaved chocolate sauce, of course. You can get a 22 ounce bag for only $9.99, and I promise that you won’t regret it.

In first place, we have Brookside Dark Chocolate Covered Blueberries & Açai. This is the perfect snack if you’re looking to stay alive, awake, and alert throughout a busy and hectic week on the Hill. There is nothing better than tasting a soft, decadent blueberry açai filling coated with a dark chocolate shell. The instant these little chocolates melt on your tongue I can guarantee you will immediately fall in love. These can become dangerously addictive especially since Costco prices them at only $7.99 per 32 ounce bag. That’s enough to last you at least two weeks if you’re like me!

Words can only meet so much, but from one fellow Ole to another you have got to trust me on these three snacks. Happy snacking, Oles!
