‘Fourth Wing’ series soars above expectations

I’m sure many of you have caught wind of the buzz surrounding Rebecca Yarros’ captivating series, “Fourth Wing.” It seems to be making waves everywhere, from TikTok to Target to Barnes & Noble. And is it deserving of all the hype? Without a doubt!

As someone who hasn’t delved much into the fantasy genre before, diving into “Fourth Wing” was a leap into the unknown. Yet, it surpassed all of my expectations. Packed to the brim with adventure, dragons, a fiercely independent protagonist, and a whirlwind of emotions from love to desire, “Fourth Wing” follows the journey of Violet, a young woman poised to enter the prestigious war college. Divided into four quadrants — scribes, healers, infantry, and riders — Violet finds herself pushed into the realm of dragon riders against her own expectations, challenging her resilience as she navigates the rigors of battle, combat, and riding, all while forming an unbreakable bond with a dragon.

Without revealing too much, let me assure you that this book is 100 percent worth the read. And if you find yourself yearning for more, Yarros’ sequel, “Iron Flame,” is available to read. Though slightly lengthier, by the time you reach the end, you’ll be left wishing for even more. One of Yarros’ strengths lies in her ability to weave a narrative that deeply connects readers to her characters. And, as a bonus, if you’re a fan of the enemies-to-lovers trope, this series definitely delivers.

The only regret? That the trilogy is currently incomplete. However, the third book is expected to be released in December. Speaking from personal experience, I finished this book a month ago and I’m still reeling from a book hangover. In fact, I deliberately postponed finishing the final 100 pages of “Iron Flame” for weeks simply because I didn’t want the journey to end — it was that good. If you’re looking for a book that will become your whole personality for a few months, the “Fourth Wing” series is definitely the way to go.
