What are Oles wearing? An ode to disappearing barefoot sightings

Fashion - Hannah Anderson

Are you a victim of seeing an Ole in hot weather with their bare feet out? If so, you should be entitled to financial compensation.

In 1896, the Birkenstock was created and ever since then, Oles under the sun have had no shame in exposing their toes to the world. I would argue that it is a scary sighting, one which brings a similar fear as sighting the real Bigfoot.

In summer fashion, this is not a trend that can be easily eradicated. This behavior of wearing sandals casually is in which comes and goes every summer, and the dates are thankfully nearing an end. It is not a movement being led by influencers – Emma Chamberlain absolutely does not have her toes out. Instead, it is one which has loyal followers that return to its fruits every summertime.

However controversial, an alternative to such behaviors would be to wear socks and sandals. The wearers of bare sandals may even disagree with me, but I object to this criticism as I know that as the weather gets colder, fuzzy socks and Birkenstocks will be the next trend and I will be in on it.

It’s almost as if Ole fashion is more predictable than Minnesota weather. It’s like twin day every day, “I’ll be St. Paul if you’ll be Minneapolis.” Oles cannot and will not walk around campus without seeing a pair of Birkenstocks.

However, with ever-changing weather conditions in Minnesota, fashion trends on campus will change. On colder days, Oles in Birkenstocks will go out walking and see Uggs introduced into campus spaces. Eventually, these Oles will see snow boots being worn by those who read their Kevin Larson emails. In addition, there are those who will wear Doc Martens despite their uselessness in winter conditions. Oles might even see me in my waterproof Crocs.

Until then, we will continue to see the unfortunate sight of bare feet in sandals, surrounded by the strange imprint that’s left on their soles. As weather gets colder, these sightings will lower until this particular trend’s hiatus.

In the meanwhile, I will be wearing my Uggs until they say “UGH!”
