Apple pie is the best

The two most popular types of pie are undoubtedly apple and pumpkin, especially

around this time of year– and apple’s the superior one, case closed. No, but really, apple pie is

so much better than its custard-like, orangish-brown counterpart, and here’s why.

First off, apple pie is so customizable. There are so many varieties of apples that you

can make the filling exactly how you want it. You want a classic pie with a tart filling? Great, then use Granny Smiths. Or, would you prefer it to be soft and sweet? That’s easy, too, you can use Golden Delicious or Honeycrisp. Better yet, you can combine multiple varieties of apples to get that perfect combination of sweet and tart. With pumpkin pie, you just use whatever

pumpkin puree you can find cheapest at Target and maybe mix some spices into it. To my

knowledge, almost no one goes through the effort to find the perfect pumpkin to put into their pie

like they do apples.

You can also warm up apple pie. This may sound like a stupid, shallow reason as to why

it’s better than pumpkin, but hear me out. In the fall, especially in the wonderful state of

Minnesota, you’d probably prefer to eat a warm snack to combat the cold outside rather than a

cold one. And, get this, apple pie is absolutely amazing when eaten warm. That’s a pretty widely

accepted fact. However, if you don’t like warm pie for whatever reason, you can still enjoy apple

pie. I can confirm that it’s still great cold. Or, you always have the option to pair it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which I’d argue is the best way to eat the best type of pie. Warm pumpkin pie, however, is just such a strange concept. I’ve admittedly never tried it this way, but I can only

imagine that burning your tongue on hot sticky pumpkin filling would not be a very pleasant

experience. Pumpkin pie and ice cream don’t go as well together, either. It goes well with

whipped cream, which isn’t nearly as fun.

Apple pie is customizable, versatile, and superior to pumpkin in just about every way. I

do enjoy the occasional slice of cold pumpkin pie, but come on, apple pie is simply the best fall

treat. Case closed, for real this time.
